This eruption has been studied by Professor A. Lacroix and several other European and American scientists, among those, Heilprin, Anderson, Flett... who came to Martinique after the May 8th castastrophe.

The hazards involved in that volcanic crisis were unknown or poorly documented. Therefore, the studies carried out on the flanks of mount Pelée volcano during that crisis have allowed a significant improvement in the understanding of volcanoes in general.
