This eruption has been mainly studied by Professor A. Lacroix, a famous French geologist.
However several other European and American scientists, among those, Heilprin, Anderson, Flett... came to Martinique after the May 8th castastrophe. Saint- Pierre after the catastrophe ( Ph. A Heilprin) The hazards involved in that volcanic crisis were unknown or poorly documented. Therefore, the studies carried out on the flanks of mount Pelée volcano during that crisis have allowed a significant improvement in the understanding of volcanoes in general. |
